1. Personality– – Not that Sofia has had any shortage of personality the last 15 months but I love watching her grow into a silly little kid who loves to laugh, loves a great game of peek-a-boo and has her own little language
2. Frankenbaby!!!– – If you have a pre-walker/new walker than you know EXACTLY what I mean. She’s getting more daring with the toddling so the very meaningful steps with arms out for balance might be the funniest and cutest thing ever
3. Curiousity, curiosity, curiosity– – We have hit the stage where is there is a cabinet we can’t just look into it, we must get INSIDE and truly discover it. She can wiggle herself into, out of and over things I never even thought were a baby “proofing” problem.
4. Less Babble More Words– Trust me we have plenty of strict babbling going on but words are becoming clearer by the day and to actually watch my little person learn is a novelty that I treasure. We have been saying “Mama”, “Dada”, “Ball”, “baba” but now there is a very clear “Mommy”, “Diaper”, “Bear”, “boo”, “Santa” and occasionally “book” in the vocabulary. The best ones however, are “Apeeka” which is an invite to play peek-a-boo and “amina” which seems to be her interpretation of “mine”. These “Sofie words” are the ones that melt my heart. I try to indulge in these because I know eventually, any day now, they will be just plain “Peek –a-boo” and “mine”…tear!
5. Not Too Big for a Snuggle– – At this point she still wants to climb in my lap for a story or curl up on my lap to be rocked or snuggle real close in bed. I know we “shouldn’t” be rocking our 15 month old to sleep and it’s “better” to make her sleep in a crib but the way I see it, there will be plenty of YEARS for her to not want me to hold her and where she’ll sleep in her own bed. So, for now, I’ll keep her right where she’ll let me hang on to her. Oh, let me add one point…this does NOT happen during the day. This is strickly as sleepy baby thing. She is Little Miss Busy, Independent, Curious Toddler most of the day. But it just makes the snuggles a little sweeter

This Time Last Year…
A year ago today, we were finally able to announce, in this post, that we were in the final stretch of leaving the NICU. We needed to make it just a few more days with no Brady’s and continue making strides with feeding to make it home for Christmas. Reflecting on that time makes me so appreciative of how far we’ve come. I went through my phone and re-read some of the posts we sent to people on the 19th and 20th being cautiously optimistic about making it home for Christmas. And yes, I’m aware that hanging on to texts for a year is probably a little insane but revisiting them took me back to the emotions. I was excited and nervous, I think I may have been holding my breath for days till we finally went home.
Now, a year later, I’m chasing around a toddler and trying to keep a balance of managing a curious, busy toddler and career. Jonathan and I are now able to truly enjoy baby’s 2nd Christmas, it feels more like a first Christmas for us all. We had a first visit with Santa, we actually were able to find a Christmas dress that fit and we have been able to celebrate the holidays by seeing it through the eyes of this spunky little girl. Making it home in time for Christmas was our holiday miracle in 2011 but I feel like this 2012 holiday season I’m able to watch my miracle in action…it doesn’t get much better than that!

Thankful 30: Day 4-6
Sunday Day 4:, daylight saving, I am thankful for a 13 month old who slept in till the new 9am…aka the old 10am. My little snuggle bug loves her sleep
Monday Day 5: I’m thankful for my beautiful home and how much it has become more “ours” day by day. I can’t wait for the memories we will make here over the years and so thankful for the memories we have already shared. Like a first birthday! 🙂
Tuesday Day 6: I’m thankful for my right to vote. I’m thankful for being an American and I look forward to encouraging my daughter to exercise her right to vote, whenever she can and for whomever she supports.
