Earth Day Recap

April 24, 2015

There’s something about hearing all the buzz about Earth Day that really makes you want to make changes! Last year, we planted seeds to try and grow our little garden. Too bad Mommy didn’t realize that the those suckers sprout way faster than I expected and I had no pots to transfer them into in time. MOM FAIL. (Check out that Throw Back Thursday pic of Sofia…where did that little nugget go?!)

Had to go with TBT on this one because we could plant seeds, take pics and keep JT from eating the dirt…oops!

This year, with Sofia being in school and me being a room Mom, I sent her in with a big bag of giveaways for Earth Day/Show and Tell. A family friend was able to score is a big box of goodies from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. It had a coloring book and information on water conservation and the usefulness of pollinators.

We love our coloring book and conservation information.
Hopefully this years seeds have better luck than last year!

It also included temporary tattoos. So, of course, Sofia was thrilled to dig into those! We are using the books and coloring book to talk about what we can do to help the environment. One of Sofia’s favorite shows is Plum Landing on PBS and it helps reiterate some of what we read.

And because I love to *try* to grow plants, we are attempting seeds again…I’m prepared with pots this time!

What did you do for Earth Day? Tell us all about it!

Spring/Easter Toddler Crafts

April 20, 2015

My toddler and I love crafts! I’m always so suprised how excited she get when we do a new “project”. By now, I’ve learned that the trick to a successful crafting session is to be fully prepared before we start. I have everything set up from materials to clean up wipes or plastic bags for trash ready. This helps alleviate the issue of leaving a toddler with freshly poured paint to walk away and grab paper or clean up materials! It also keeps me from losing her attention before we even get started.

She wasn’t nearly as confused as this picture suggests!

Here what you need:

Paper
Scissors
Crayola Washable paint
Clothes Pins
Cotton Balls

Clamp the cotton ball with the clothes pin and use a different one for each color. We made an easter egg and a carrots. The leaves of the carrot were her handprint. I traced them and then cut it out while she painted. She is loving real paint these days, I’m going to need to invest in some brushes and a cute smock!

These were nap time crafts while baby brother was asleep. I haven’t been daring enough to bring him into the fold with our crafting just yet. What fun spring crafts have you done or seen?

Welcome!

Hi, my name is Chenoa! I'm a Florida native originally from Miami but has been living in Maitland for 22 years with a short 2-year break where she lived in (and fell in love with) Raleigh, NC. She’s part “adopted Southern charm” with a streak of feisty Miami girl! Read More…
