Nesting Series: 5 of 30- The Dresser Redo

After a few days of feeling under the weather, it finally caught up with me today and I just didn’t have the energy to get any notable nesting done. This little boy is running out of room and isn’t giving his Mama a very good nights rest. Between that and Big Sister-to-be’s new run-in with night terrors…I’m one exhausted Mama.

We decided to lay low today except for a little trip to the park to let Little Miss Ball of Energy run off some steam. I figured this was a good time to back track and post about the dresser we redid for boys nursery. 
Grandma offered us a hand me down dresser and we accepted without thinking twice! I didn’t really have a clue what I was going to do to it but I knew it was in dire need of some TLC. 
Here are the before pics:
This was our first big undertaking on refinishing a piece of furniture. I scoured Pinterest, made my color selection and we were off. We My amazing husband, sanded it…no big deal. Once it was prepped we started painting…no big deal, right? Wrong!
 First coat was right around the time panic ensued. We questioned the color choice, the application technique, the entire project. The paint went on thin and streaky and nothing like the vibrant rich “inspiration” picture off Pinterest. 
After a few strategically placed inquiries to some friends who are much more knowledgeable about the whole, furniture refinishing process, we decided to stick it out and see how it would turn out. And I’m so glad that we did! After 3 coats of green and a coat of lacquer, the finished project was worth the almost heart attack. 
We picked out new hardware and I’m officially in love with this piece!

Now that the countdown has begun…it’s time for clean up round…oh, who am I kidding, I’ve totally lost count! Some of the little projects we’ve done in this room are refinishing the bookshelf and dresser. More details on the dresser before and after tomorrow.

I diverged a bit from the “standard” baby related nesting to tackle something that has been driving Jonathan and I crazy for a while. When we moved in, we never came up with a good system or any system for our electronic cords. They have been housed all around the house, we can never find chargers and upload cords when we need them.

While on a visit to Michael’s I saw that they had 50% off storage boxes and baskets. So, I picked up these boxes for $1.99.
I then went through the house and collected all the cords from each room. I grabbed the new boxes, ziplocs and markers. 

My husband I went through each cords. We bagged up and labeled each one, tossed the old obsolete cords and got to organizing! We have a box for all camera related things, a box for everything else and a box of old CD’s and the manuals for the tech gadgets. It feels SO good to know it all has a place. Working on this little boys room for the rest of the weekend so stay tuned!

Nesting Series: 2 of 30- The Hospital Bag


Checklist done, check! After much musing on Pinterest, I decided I’m pretty “sure” about my hospital bag checklist. Not that Pinterest didn’t tempt me to go out and want to buy brand new EVERYTHING for my 2-3 day hospital stay but I refrained…I behaved. As a matter of fact, I’ve only purchased new slippers and will be purchasing new nursing stuff because those things were actually necessary.
I spent a few extra minutes typing out my iPhone checklist and making it a little pretty and printable. Feel free to use it too, if you are in need of one! I included some things that I didn’t really find on other sites that I think are important to breastfeeding. There were also some things I probably won’t bring with us, like a Boppy or My Brest Friend pillow. It didn’t really work well for Sofia and I plus, I’d hate to add any more bulk to what we are carrying with us.
