Baby Boys Wild Ride: The Birth Story

January 21, 2014

Well, it’s official, my children like making surprise appearances for their births! Little man wanted to make sure he had a story to tell about his birthday and he sure has one.

Friday was the beginning of this weekends festivities, it was the first day my best high school friend and her daughter, who’s 3, were arriving in town for my baby shower and my Moms best friend arrived as well. The girls spent the day hanging out and playing and having a blast and all of us grown ups spent time catching up and laughing at the kids being silk. Saturday my best friend from college and her 3 year old came into town. The level was raised exponentially.

That night, after dinner I started to feel a little strange. Back ache started but it was the middle of my back so I didn’t think much of it. Then I started getting some abdominal cramping but not contractions. This was enough to make me need to lay down. I put my feet up, drank some water and finally the cramping let up but Braxton Hicks started.
It was about 8:30pm so we decided to leave my parents’s house to get the girls in bed. After bedtime routine and Sofia was down, I realized the Braxton Hicks where getting a little stronger than normal. Around 9pm I started timing them. After an hour, I realized that they were about every 6.5min and fairly strong but not enough to be unbearable. I called in to the OB and waited for a call back. When the intensity was getting a little too strong and I hadn’t received a call back. I told my husband, we needed to go to triage.
We were monitored in triage for a couple hours and the contractions weren’t stopping but since I was only 35
Weeks 1day, they wanted to try anything they could to avoid a cesarean if at all possible.
I was given a single shot of Terbutaline which made me feel like my heart would best out of my chest, all while making my hands shake and giving me a massive headache and making my poor little guy go insanely busy with the effects too. They monitored me for a bit, contractions slowed but not enough for my OB to feel comfortable letting me go home.
We decided the best bet was overnight monitoring. Jonathan went home to be with Sofia and get some sleep. I think we were all fairly convinced that sleeping it off would make the contractions finally stop. Nope!
By 7:30am rounds the OB called it as the contractions were increasing in intensity and he didn’t want to risk it against my previous surgery scar or the cerclage. My c-section was scheduled for between 8-8:30am.
Let the craziness begin! Mind you this was the morning of my shower and now we were making phone calls for coverage for Sofia and trying to put up posts canceling the shower, trying to get my husband back to the hospital in time. Panic was ensuing. Oh right and we hadn’t picked a name!
At 9:13 am our precious baby boy was born at 4lbs13oz and 18in long. We are so in love with our little guy. Now, to figure out this name issue!!!

***promise, we ARE
working on the name***

Nesting Series: 7 of 30- The Home Management Binder

January 14, 2014

Hi, my name is Chenoa and I’m addicted to Pinterest (and Facebook but let’s move slowly here). I’m sure my fellow Pinterest addicts have seen the numerous pins for Home Management Binders. I have several pinned under my ā€œOrganizationā€ board and I pinned some of them over a year ago.
I decided to finally commit to creating one. Some of the pins I’ve found really didn’t link to anything other than a photo of a binder from Flickr or some other photo only site and that’s just not helpful because I already know what a binder looks like.

Other sites had a ton of different tabs that seemed to be a bit redundant. So, I basically went through and came up with what I THINK will work for my family. I went through our home office and came to the conclusion that along with my Pinterest (and Facebook) addiction, I hoard office supplies. Strange but handy when you are looking for random dividers and office supplies!

I went pin by pin and printed out and wrote down thing that I liked and looked at lists of tabs that other people used and then assessed whether they were pertinent to our household. Example, some people had tabs for ā€œYard salesā€, we’ve never had a yard sale so, I doubt reserving an entire tab for this would be necessary.  Other sites had a calendar for Meal planning and another calendar for appointments and one for bills. I know that I’d forget to check one calendar or the other so, I have a section for bills in the front and then a single household calendar.

I also have a commitment issue and I didn’t want to commit to permanently labeling my tabs till I was sure what would work so, I have temporary Post-it flags which have been rearranged over and over.
So, let’s breakdown my binder, I started with ā€œMeal Planningā€ as this is something that is done weekly and if not done properly turns into an astronomically high grocery bill. I created a Post-It note grid so that I can rearrange meals until things make sense and it appealed to my non committal side. I slid it into a page protector and voila, done!

My next page is a Weekly To Do printable I found here I’ll use this as a way to plan out thing that are important enough to want to accomplish but maybe not necessary to put as a full on appointment on a calendar.

Next section was the fun stuff, bills. This is my weak spot when it comes to responsibility, I have to admit. (I must have taken an honesty pill this morning because I’m just giving away all my deepest confessions today!) This section helps kill two birds with one stone. It should help cut down clutter and keep me on track with not missing a bill due date here and there. I put a pocket tab in this section specifically to place unpaid bills on the front and a “to be filed” pocket on the back so that it’s easy to tell what’s been paid and needs to be filed away. Behind this are January through December tabs that house a calendar of when bills are due per month. This year we will have more medical bills with baby due soon and more baby visits. This will give us a way to incorporate and budget for those expenses throughout the month.

Next, I included my “other” sections. These include a Calendar, Meal Planning with ideas for cheap meals, favorite recipes and such, Freezer/Pantry Inventory sheet, Household Goals and lastly the Blog.

The blog section will most likely become it’s own binder. This is my new organization binder. I plan to do a follow up post every 90 days to keep myself accountable for using it and decide what works and doesn’t work for our household.

Nesting Series: 6 of 30- Slowing Down for the main J-O-B

January 14, 2014

It’s going to be a long 3 weeks! The full time job has decided to get busy the last week or so. It’s putting a damper on my weekday nesting progress. I’m working on my calendars for meal planning, home management and my blog.

It’s been a slower process than I hoped for but I’ll have pictures and details up tomorrow. Juggling 2 kids, a household, a full time job and trying to keep up with the blog is going to require some major organization in 2014!
